GOLLOZINO ROUTE: A PLAN FOR LOVERS OF SPORT IN NATURE AT 25 MINS OF MONTE ELVIRA

The Gollozino Route is a hiking route that runs through the municipality of Moclín, located 25 minutes from Monte Elvira . It is a route of 8 km. of little difficulty, although during a section of it, the difference is quite important.

Anyway, it can be adapted and made shorter in case you do not want to walk as much or you go with small children. The ideal is to start and finish the Gollizno Route in Moclín, since it is a charming town where before or after the excursion, you can enjoy its castle, stroll through its streets or have a drink. Also, if you prefer to leave from Olivares, as it is a circular route, it is also possible.

FIRST SECTION OF THE GOLLIZNO ROUTE: MOCLÍN – OLIVARES

Leaving from Calle Real and descending through Esperanza Street, you will access an unpaved road through which you will reach the town of Olivares. On the way you will pass some picnic areas, a hermitage and enjoy beautiful panoramic views from the top to the village of Olivares (top image) and the sea of ​​olive trees typical of the area in which we find ourselves.

After this, you will arrive at the village of Olivares. Actually this section is not the Gollizno Route itself, but a part of the Mozarabic Way, but it is included within the Gollizno Route to make it a little longer and to be able to circulate it.

SEGUNDO TRAMO: OLIVARES – FUENTE DE CORCUELA

From the village of Olivares we will turn left to start the Ruta del Gollizno. It is indicated with posters, so there is no loss. Through a small bridge that crosses the Velillos River, you will start walking through the Tajos de la Hoz, next to the river, until you reach the hanging bridge. This is probably the most beautiful part of the entire Gollizno Route.

Continuing the route you will start to climb until you reach the Fuente de Corcuela, where you can stop to take strength to face the last section, which has a steep climb.

THIRD SECTION: FUENTE DE LA CORCUELA – MOCLÍN

Climbing the stairs of the Fuente de Corcuela, turn left to face the climb that will take you back to the town of Moclín. Just at the beginning you can see the cave paintings of Corcuela, from the Neolithic period.
From here you will start a continuous climb to the town of Moclín. It is likely that in this area you will see mountain goats in the higher parts, which will make you more pleasant the hard climb. Also in the last section you will see the castle fortress of Moclín.

Once you get to the village, you will have finished the Gollizno Route and you can get close to the Castle or to the Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation, where the famous and venerated Christ of the Cloth is found.

If you go with children or want to make a shorter route you can simply make the second round trip.
The Ruta del Gollizno is a good route to enjoy nature in the interior of Andalusia, admiring the landscapes of olive groves typical of the area in a territory that, as a border between the Christian kingdom and the Muslim kingdom that was, had great importance in the defense of the Nasrid kingdom at the time of the Reconquest.
